Common household pests

Here’s a list of the most common household and garden pests to watch out for...

Rodents - Rats and mice can cause damage to walls, floors, wiring and carry parasites and diseases.

Bedbugs – Small and flat and can fit in the tiniest gaps. Hard to eradicate and they feed on blood.

Wasps, bees and hornets – They are hard to identify specific species and guidelines must be followed especially for bees. Wasps and hornets can be aggressive and professional nest removal is recommended.

Cockroaches – Very common and carry disease. Keep your home and garden tidy and free from rubbish.

Ants – Can be easily removed with a quality powder product.

Moles – Moles will damage gardens and will be humanely removed with traps.

Squirrels – They can cause significant damage to woodwork, pipes and insulation as well as wiring.

Pigeons - Pigeons seek shelter at night and congregate at roosting sites during the day. Pigeons feel safe in a sheltered area where they are not easily seen. In urban areas, pigeons roost in trees, abandoned structures, rafters, beams, along building eaves and awnings, and under bridges. These areas can be easily modified to discourage roosting.

Foxes - Clearly, foxes can be a nuisance at times, particularly during the mating season when their eerie screams can be heard at night or when male foxes (dogs) fight with each other over territory or a female fox (vixen). The problem of fox noise is seasonal and lasts for just a couple of weeks .Foxes will sometimes tear rubbish sacks apart and leave the contents strewn all over the garden. One of the most common problems we receive enquiries about is fox fouling.

Cluster Flys - Cluster flies find their way into our homes in autumn and again usually seen again in spring. They seem to come from no-where and sometimes in huge numbers - they can literally cover window sills. Although they carry no real health risks these flies can cause an annoyance from early autumn right through to late spring. We have a variety of treatments to eliminate cluster fly infestations. As these are a seasonal pest selecting the correct treatment at the right time is essential for effective control of cluster flies.
